The Power from Steam Event ,1-4th Sept. 2011

These four days were were a major event at Beamish Museum with a wide range of invited steam, traction engines, and locomotives. As our contribution we ran steam locomotives from 10.30am to  4,30pm, and carried a minimum of some 1600 passengers. Our 5 carriages carry about 15 passengers suggesting at least 100 round trips in the four days. in addition we had a large exhibition of model engineering in the exhibition hall of the Archive Centre. The photos are taken from Sam Wakes collection for which we are very grateful.

Stuart Davison,s “Imp” being prepared. This Wren Locomotive was formerly owned by Mike Holt and was one of the first visitors to BMEG. A very welcome visitor from TSMEE

“Golden Jubilee” owned by jim Duncan and Adrian Morley. one of the BMEG work horses, built by Wilf Johnson and friends.

Mike Lax preparing his Koppel which lives at BMEG. A Koppel coming up or down the rack while passengers cross the ground level bridge is a great surprise.

Ian Spencer ( TSMEE and BMEG) driving Ken Swan,s Koppel with a full trainof happy passengers

“Nathan”, another “Wren” being prepared by Brian Nicol. Interesting modifications include new safety valves ( soft-pop, from Polly) and a pressure gauge on the steam oil pump outlet.

Tickets (50p) were on sale in the Exhibition centre of the archive Building. this cunning plan meant that visitors had an opportunity to see the exhibition of model engineering.
